Brigham and Women's Hospital Selects SinglePointe(TM) Automated Patient-Specific Medication Management Solution from Omnicell
ORLANDO, Fla., Dec 08, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ --
ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition -- Omnicell, Inc., (Nasdaq: OMCL) a leading provider of system solutions to acute healthcare facilities, and Brigham and Women's Hospital, a 777-bed teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School located in the heart of Boston's renowned Longwood Medical Area, today announced the planned installation of Omnicell's SinglePointe(TM) automated patient-specific medication management system. With the integration of the SinglePointe solution into its existing automation and bar code verification systems, Brigham and Women's is providing nurses and pharmacists with a single point of access for all patient medications that improves workflow efficiencies and patient safety.
"Effectively managing medications requires efficiencies in workflow and compliance with regulatory issues," said William W. Churchill MS, R.Ph, executive director of Pharmacy, Brigham and Women's Hospital. "Brigham and Women's will benefit from a unique patient-specific system that helps to address these important issues and improves patient safety."
Debuted at the 2007 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting, the SinglePointe solution was made generally available in June with the release of Omnicell 12.0. In a departure from traditional medication dispensing systems, the SinglePointe solution provides an auto-assign process that matches patient-specific locations with patients and their medications that are not routinely stocked in the dispensing system. This proprietary feature significantly reduces the labor intensive process of loading and unloading medications in the dispensing system as well as the management of multi-use and "home" medications. Whether the patient is transferred or discharged, the SinglePointe solution's user intuitive workflow results in improved control and accountability of these patient-specific medications.
"Our customers continually inspire us to improve the way hospital pharmacy and nursing staff store, manage, and track medications," said Randall A. Lipps, chairman, president and chief executive officer, Omnicell. "The SinglePointe solution is revolutionary in its ability to address the time-consuming, inconsistent and labor intensive medication management procedures that both pharmacy and nursing staff must grapple with every day."
