Automating and securing the medication dispensing system throughout the hospital streamlines nursing workflow and helps improve patient care
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 10, 2020--
Omnicell, Inc. (NASDAQ:OMCL), a leading provider of medication management solutions and adherence tools for health systems and pharmacies, today announced that Geisinger, one of the leading health systems serving Pennsylvania and New Jersey, has partnered with Omnicell to help drive clinical and operational efficiency, increase medication safety and reduce costs—ultimately supporting enhanced patient care.
Through a six-year sole source agreement with Omnicell, Geisinger will employ Omnicell® XT Automated Dispensing Systems to improve nurse-pharmacy workflows and medication safety and security. This investment follows Geisinger’s recent upgrade to the XT Anesthesia Workstation™, moving from manual processes to automation, for easy yet secure access to medications in the operating room.
“Automating the process of storing, dispensing and securing medication in patient care areas and operating rooms will allow our pharmacists to spend less time on the administrative tasks involved in running a very busy pharmacy, and more time on direct patient care,” said Dave Klinger, system director of pharmacy operations, Geisinger. “We have a long-standing and trusted partnership with Omnicell and look forward to leveraging their knowledge and expertise to further upgrade and automate our facilities.”
Approximately 35-54 percent of clinicians in the U.S. feel burnout in their current job1 and 50 percent of pharmacy directors say they currently have staff shortages.2Omnicell is leading the way to the autonomous pharmacy—a roadmap designed to develop a zero-error, fully automated medication management infrastructure that reduces administrative burden and allows clinicians to spend more time on patient care.
“We are pleased to partner with Geisinger as they adopt new, innovative approaches to drive operational efficiency, increase safety and reduce costs,” said Scott Seidelmann, executive vice president and chief commercial officer at Omnicell. “A fully autonomous pharmacy involves automation, data intelligence and expert services to support improved efficiency, regulatory compliance, and patient outcomes.”
