MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., June 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Omnicell, Inc. (NASDAQ: OMCL), a leading provider of automated solutions for medication and supply management and business analytics software to healthcare facilities, today announced that its new G4 platform has achieved ONC-ATCB certification as a Modular Electronic Health Record (EHR).  Omnicell is the first stand-alone automated medication system to receive this certification, supporting its customers in achieving their meaningful use objectives to qualify for federal funding incentives as outlined in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

Omnicell is the only company that offers an automated dispensing system that is Modular EHR certified and works with all HIS vendors. Omnicell is one of the first vendors outside of the EHR software sector to achieve ONC-ATCB certification, not only enabling its customer healthcare organizations to improve care for their patients, but also assisting them in their efforts to qualify for financial incentives offered under ARRA.  On May 19, 2011, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issued the first round of payments totaling $75 million to providers who successfully met the Stage One requirements for Meaningful Use.  When healthcare providers use certified EHR systems in a way that satisfies the required Meaningful Use criteria, they are eligible to seek these federal adoption incentives.

"We are proud to set the standard for our industry by achieving this important milestone," said Randall Lipps, Omnicell president and chief executive officer.  "Because Omnicell products interface closely with a hospital's EHR, we believe certification is important to provide our customers with peace of mind that our medication dispensing system meets the same stringent requirements as other components of their EHR.  The significant investment we made to attain certification demonstrates our commitment to assisting our customers in achieving meaningful use."

This EHR Module is 2011/2012 compliant and has been certified by Drummond Group in their capacity as an Office of the National Coordinator — Authorized Testing and Certification Body (ONC-ATCB) in accordance with the applicable Eligible Hospital certification criteria adopted by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS).This certification does not represent an endorsement by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services or guarantee the receipt of incentive payments.  Omnicell's G4 OmniCenter 15.2 has been tested and certified by Drummond Group on June 16, 2011 and the certification number is 06162011-1143-9.  Additional software used: Windows 2008 Server; 7-Zip.
