Ensuring patient safety is core to all Omnicell products and OptiFlex with UDI capture capability furthers this commitment. As the FDA mandates unique medical device labeling and tracking, OptiFlex not only manages product inventory at the point-of-use with a single bar code scan capture, but also integrates with the EHR to create an automated tracking record within the EHR so that clinical care teams, materials managers and HIPAA-cleared staff can quickly identify device information. Hospitals utilizing OptiFlex 12.0 will be able to provide improved patient device surveillance in the event that there is a clinical need to identify the device post-procedure.
Today at the annual HIMSS conference, Omnicell proudly congratulates OptiFlex 12.0 development partner Mercy, one of the nation's largest Catholic health systems, for receiving the 2014 Intelligent Hospital Award for their efforts to integrate UDI in their EHR and enable outcomes-based analysis. For the past year, Mercy has conducted a pilot project involving the implantation of stents in the cardiac cath lab. Utilizing OptiFlex supply solutions at the point of use, Mercy staff has been able to integrate patient custodial information directly into the EHR, and seamlessly connect with materials management systems to provide better visibility to product usage and inventory in the cath lab suite.
"It is a great honor to receive the 2014 Intelligent Hospital Award and be recognized for our commitment to delivering the best care to our patients," said Dr. Joseph Drozda, Mercy's director of outcomes research. "As part of our cath lab pilot project, OptiFlex enabled us to capture UDI at the point of care and make our device surveillance program a reality. We're hopeful that our hospital peers will learn from our experience and pursue implementation of the same kind of program that promotes patient safety and increases efficiency in the hospital."
"Omnicell is proud to bring innovation to our customers that continue to seek the best possible care for patients in the most effective and efficient manner," said Marga Ortigas-Wedekind, Omnicell executive vice president, global marketing and product development. "OptiFlex 12.0 will help meet the challenges of new FDA mandates and bring tighter control of inventory utilization with a single bar code scan. The work and recognition of Mercy today at HIMSS demonstrates how partnerships can work to deliver superb solutions."
OptiFlex can be seen this week at HIMSS at the Omnicell booth (#902) and is part of the Intelligent Hospital Pavilion. General availability of OptiFlex 12.0 is expected in 2014.
