MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 29, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Omnicell, Inc., (Nasdaq: OMCL) a leading provider of system solutions to acute healthcare facilities, today announced that National University Hospital, a leading healthcare provider in Singapore, has selected Omnicell product lines as the sole solution for automated medication dispensing cabinets in a hospital-wide implementation.

A member of the National University Health System (NUHS), National University Hospital became the first hospital in Asia Pacific to install a closed-loop medication management system to enhance patient safety and increase operational efficiency in its in-patient wards. Under the agreement, National Healthcare Group's (NHG) Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore will also install OmniRx™ systems at a future date. All systems are being supplied by Omni-Comm Pte Ltd., the Omnicell distributor in Singapore.

"Our main goal with this project was to improve patient safety and enhance workflow efficiency for doctors, nurses and pharmacists," said project leader Wu Tuck Seng, deputy director, Department of Pharmacy, National University Hospital. "The automated medication dispensing cabinet system will assist in getting the right medication to the right patient and free up our staff to focus on patient-centric activities."

The automated medication dispensing systems were implemented in National University Hospital's first ward on February 4, 2009, and have since been introduced in seven wards. The full implementation, across 38 wards, is targeted for completion by the third quarter of this year.

"The adoption of medication automation by NUHS and NHG in Singapore is a demonstration of the momentum Omnicell is experiencing in new markets," said Randall A. Lipps, chairman, president and chief executive officer, Omnicell. "It is gratifying to see our vision of enhancing patient safety and operational efficiency in healthcare being embraced on a global basis."
